Core Craftsmanship: Famille Rose Pahua Decoration

1. Engraved Ground Base
Using a specially crafted fine metal needle, the artisan meticulously engraves continuous linked-scroll and pearl-ground patterns across the entire porcelain surface. The lines are as fine as hair, interwoven in layers, creating a delicate textured feel — this is the hallmark foundation of pahua work, also known as “brocade ground.”

2. Hand-Painted Myriad Flowers
Over the engraved ground, various flowers are hand-painted, with layered petals and intricate detailing. Every flower is uniquely painted by hand, with no repeated patterns, symbolizing “flowers blooming in splendor.”

3. Gradient Washed Color Application
Using a multi-layer famille rose wash-dye technique, the piece is fired in multiple stages to achieve a soft, natural gradient — from pink to purple, with seamless transitions. The result is translucent, warm, and refined.

Gold-Rimmed Edges

1. Hand-Applied Pure Gold Borders
The rim of the lid, the bowl mouth, the saucer edge, and the lid knob are all finished with hand-applied pure gold. The gold layer is fine and lustrous, fired twice for durability and resistance to tarnishing, enhancing the piece’s refined elegance.

2. Classic Three-Tier Form (San Cai)
The set consists of lid, bowl, and saucer — the classic gaiwan form. The lid features a pressure-fit jewel-shaped knob; the bowl has a gracefully curved body that retains aroma and heat; the saucer is shallow with a broad rim for stable support. This timeless design ensures comfortable handling and a smooth, drip-free pour.

3. White Porcelain Body
Made from high-white kaolin, the body is thin, translucent, and lightweight. The glaze is smooth, lustrous, and softly radiant, providing a crisp, clean backdrop that makes the famille rose gradient colors pop with vivid brilliance.
